Respect and a Fair Deal for Graduate Workers

Graduate workers deserve respect and a fair deal!

We the undersigned graduate student workers of the University of Virginia are writing to call for the University to recognize the essential labor we perform as employees and to treat us accordingly. We demand the following:

1.That UVA pays all graduate student workers enough to cover the cost of living. As of Spring 2021, that means at least $31,300 a year and a minimum of $15.00 an hour for all wage work.

2. That UVA provides all graduate student workers with employee health care plans, with dental and vision care included.

3. That UVA issues clear and standardized terms of employment in writing upon admission for every graduate student worker the University hires. These terms must outline and address discrepancies in hours, wages, and expectations, as well as describe potential disciplinary measures and what recourse we have should the terms be violated.
